Kenno Shoaf

Who is one of the most well know YMCA staff members in Salisbury?

The answer is Kenno Shoaf.

Kenno came to the YMCA in 1978 after rehabilitation from a diving accident that left him a paraplegic.  For many years, Kenno has worked with area youth. He coaches them in sports leagues and hangs out with them in the teen center. Over the years he has organized church and industrial league sports for teens and adults.  Many of those youth now have children of their own who also look to Kenno as a mentor and trusted friend.

Kenno has contributed a great deal to the YMCA over the years.  He spreads good cheer and knowledge as he gives YMCA tours to new and perspective members. His smile is infectious and his desire to help others inspirational.

Kenno is an avid Carolina Tarheels fan. His passion for volleyball lead him to organizing a middle school girls volleyball program at the Y.  If you go in Kenno’s office, you will find the following quote:

“I shall pass this world but once.
If therefore, there may be any kindness I can show,
Or any good I can do, Let me do it now ……
For I shall not pass this way again.”

Thank you, Kenno, for being the ultimate Y guy.
